SII coordinated and organized the Inaugural Latin America and Caribbean Congress for Conservation Biology (LACCCB 2018) in Trinidad and Tobago. In collaboration with The Latin America and Caribbean Section of the Society for Conservation Biology (SCB) and the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus. July 25-27, 2018.
Our vision for the LACCCB 2018 was to create a platform where conservation professionals from across Latin America and the Caribbean convened to address conservation challenges and present new findings, initiatives, methods, tools, and opportunities for collaboration. Our mission was to foster a dynamic and inclusive environment promoting innovative conservation science and practice approaches.
LACCCB 2018 successfully brought together researchers, educators, practitioners, policymakers, media, and students, as well as Conservation organizations, NGOs, and advocacy groups. The meeting presentations, workshops, and discussions enabled methods to advance research, policy and practical solutions to conservation challenges. Ongoing outcomes from the congress include a policy statement and updates on the Orinoco Mining Arc can be followed on the LACCCB update page.
By facilitating collaboration and knowledge-sharing, the LACCCB 2018 has significantly advanced conservation efforts in the region and continues to inspire ongoing initiatives to protect our natural heritage.
